Yesterdayi bought 2 big frozen turkeys @34c/lb. So I paid less than $15 for about 40 lbs. Today I cut them up in pieces and cooked them in oven. If I would cook them whole, my oven would have to run for over 3 hrs for each. But in pieces, even tho, it didn't fit in the oven, and I had to wait for the first half of meat to cook, and then cook the other half, the oven was on for about 3 hrs. So I cut my cooking time in half by cutting it in pieces.

Before I used to cook whole turkey, but for the last 3 yrs, I always cut it in pieces to save on cooking time and gas.

Went food shopping today and made a cool discovery! I went to Shaw's to take advantage of the sales ect... and remembered my mom gave me a $10.00 off coupon if you buy $50.00 of grocery's. So, I give the cashier all my coupons including the $10.00 off one. She said, "I can't take this, it's a Hannaford Coupon". I went into shock naturally! Then a new front end manager said, "Actually, we can take that, we honor Hannaford coupons!"
Whoopee! Yee-Haa! I happily left with my savings!! From now on I will make sure I save those coupons and use them! Maybe I'll start asking more questions, it can't hurt!

Three of our good dining room chairs had become rickerty. Started mending them today. Within a week they'll be like new with the joints reglued and strengthened.

Wink Re: What frugal thing did you do today?

Took CashHappySon to work in HIS car on HIS gas budget w/HIS snacks for break from HIS budget. The savings for me is he will not be here burning my electricity watching cartoons, eating Jethro Bodine sized portions of cereal and milk and doing general lazaario-ing about all morning! He'll be home in time to sack up some leaves to keep The Hubster from having to do it this afternoon and he'll be earning some buck-os this morning!

We're not even going to mention the giant size psychotherapy bills I'm saving myself by not having to put up w/his on and on and on AND ON desire for consumer goods! Thank You Jesus!!

I love him dearly but Peace and QUIET!

....aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Received a free cell phone, if I can ever figure it out! Temp upstairs is now 58, but I haven't turned the heat on. I am still using my free dishwasher gel in the d/w.

Tomorrow I pick up the double bed and mattress set from a FreCycler. Someone wrote today with an almost new bread maker so I can make gluten-free breads. So, Sunday I will have two stops in Portland, Maine, an hour away from me. It's worth it considering the two items I needed and could not afford. Gas prices are down to $2.14! Oil is down to $1.99! Yesssssssss!!!!!!!!

Went to a garage sale.

I asked the man how much he wanted for a gorgeous mirror. Oh...3 or 4 bucks, he said. I told him, 'Sold at $3.00'. The silly!!! I told him you know better than saying it like that don't you? Yeah, he grinned sheepishly. But I still get it for 3 right? Yah, $3.00!! OKAY, deal!!

Got CashHappySon five pair of designer jeans for $10.00.

CashHappySon picked up a FREE dresser with mirror. Looks like Drexel Heritage...very, VERY nice!

The guy overheard us talking about the end tables he had for sale...CashHappySon wanted them for when he moves out...I asked if he had the money in HIS 'Moving Out Fund'? He ended up buying the end tables very high quality oak for $25 for the pair.

While I went home to get the truck...we were just down the street...the guy started asking CashHappy about his moving out...by the time I got back the man had given him the dresser! YE=HAWWW!! Free and he's that much closer to independence. His new to him furniture is now stashed in the basement. The dresser he got could easily sell at an auction house for $200. TOTALLY MARVELOUS DEAL!! They felt really good about helping the kid out!

I love dealing with men at garage sales. I always get the best buys from them!!

YEAH MEN!!

Today, I made took some sandwiches and fruit to our local state park. We spent some time looking out over the lake and hiking a bit. A lot better option than our normal Saturday lunch -- usually fast food. Made for a relaxing day and actually managed to make it through a Saturday without spending money for a change.

Yesterday at church they had a men's breakfast - sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, and bacon. They had brought the leftovers into our Sunday School class. I had taken a pan of Lil' Smokies that I had gotten w/a double coupon for 1.09. When class was over the pan of smokies was half full and I brought that home as well as they asked if anyone wanted the giant serving tray full of men's breakfast stuff. There's a family in our class that normally can really use this stuff but they had already left so since no one else ponied up and asked for it, I said we would take it!

I had planned on cooking chicken, mashed tates, salad and veggie w/Lemon Cake for lunch - but since the pan wouldn't fit in my frig we just reheated the breakfast stuff for lunch yesterday! YUMMERS!! Sunday night is always 'catch as catch can' on the leftovers in the house or make yourself a sandwich night. But for supper today we will be eating that chicken!

Is it Bookie or lrjohnson that inspired me w/the group leftover thing??? I think it was Bookie, but whomever, thanks for the inspiration. Normally I wouldn't have even thought about taking it home - now, I'm THERE! Me, I'll take it home - when there isn't another family whose finances could use the boost. Thanks Bookie!

Recieved coupons for two bags of pet food....free. I think both are 31/2 and 4 lb's. Also a coupon for free Scrubbing Bubbles, "simply steamed veggies" and a lot of freebies in the mail. I have to start sorting them into my Christmas Freebee gift bags. I'm so proud of my freebies! Also, had a coupon for the ensure..free six-pack, will give to my diabetic aunt as it is that variety.

Trying to find the time to sew a plastic bag holder for the baby's room. My daughter bought new flannel sheets that came in a drawstring flannel bag. She was actually going to throw it away! I snatched it for the baby's room for the bags I use to put dirty diapers in each time I change him. KIds!! Do you know how much my daughter throws away as useless??? Tons of stuff. I save all the zipper heavy plastic bags for storing shoes, wools, blankets, crafts....you name it. Returnable cans....5 cents each! Clothes, jewelry, blankets, that she tires of! Nic-Nac's....buys them like crazy and they end up in her trash can when she finds something 'Cuter". Candles.....slightly used! Heck, I'll burn them! Half used deoderants, colognes, shampoo, conditioners, body lotions!!!! ARG!!!! I can't wait for this 20 year old of mine to grow up and join the REAL WORLD!!!! She obviously does not take after her mother!!

Did some of my Christmas shopping at the grocery store! Love it - fundies for $4.00 for 3 pair, couple of big bags of peanuts for my brother, giant hot sauce for CashHappySon, de-icer for FrugalSon, t-towels and dishcloths for sister, niece, niece-in-law, ex-sis in law, mother - all five of these gifts for 14.00 total, candy for stocking stuffers, etc.

Whittling the list down!!

Took and picked up items at consignment store-came out $11 ahead. Made the families lunches today (as oppopsed to them buying them at work and school), walked to the highway and back 1/2 mile and picked up cans as I walked. The kids youth group is selling cans for a fundraiser. I picked up about 30 cents worth.
