Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Reclaimed my Tupperware tea pitcher. Thought it was a gonner! The boys just keep making tea and putting it in and it never gets much of a real scrubbing...heavy tannin buildup inside that the dishwasher couldn't even cut and so today, into a sinkful of hot soapy bleach water it went. Applied a bit of elbow grease and Viola -- Good as New!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Everyday I write at least one letter to a company to express my comments on their product....always something I use. Yesterday I received several coupons for free Cambell's soup, and several to use for other products produced by the company. Such as V-8 juice, the hubby likes a can in his lunch everyday but they are $3.69 a six-pack. I have 3/ 50 cent off coupons for future purchases. Whoo-hoo!! I like bringing that grogery bill down!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I made vegetable beef soup and cornbread. Made brownies in my mini muffin tin to freeze for the kids lunches. Saved coupons from the paper. Made some marble magnets to give to kids teachers for Xmas gifts. Very inexpensive and very cute. I have made probably 50 so far. Here is how to make them if anyone is interested.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I put short ribs in the crock pot for tonight's supper. That will be tonight's meal and my dh's lunch on Thursday. I also hulled strawberries that I bought on sale for tonight's meal.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I took a whole bunch of coupons over to my local grocery store that accepts expired coupons and stocked up on things they had on sale. I also had a $5 off $50 from our old Entertainment Book, so I got even more of a discount.
Highlights were 25lb bonus packs of kitty litter for $5 and 13 tubes of Colgate Total for about $1.13 each.
I also used my handy frozen pizza to stave off a delivery order during the Bears game on Sunday. DH was perfectly satisfied, and I saved about $10 and tons of calories!

CashHappySon is cooking sausage, red beans and rice for supper.
Went directly to the manufacturing plant to buy the rest of the quality paint for the house painting. It was about 30.00+ less than I was expecting and a good deal cheaper than it would have been had it been provided by the painter himself after he marked it up!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I boiled the big smoked shoulder this afternoon. A lot of fat, but a lot of meat. Had a great New England Boiled dinner. In the morning I will take it all apart to freeze some, make a pea soup and a Ham and Bean soup for the freezer. I have a yummy recipe for a Ham and potato casserole for dinner tomorrow night. I think these smoked shoulder's are worth every penny but I still didn't buy it until it went on sale!
Darn, was dying to go to the Dump Store but forgot it's a holiday......nothing was open today!
Tomorrow I'm also going to make homemade butternut squash, sweet potato's and green beans in little containers for the freezer. I'm saving about $50.00 in baby food expense per month! And it is so much healthier for the baby. Darling daughter would rather take the easy way out and spend her money buying jars of food.......no way! It's not any big time factor!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Today I raided the garden in preparation for the cold weather and possible (gasp) snow later this week. I pulled out a few dozen cherry tomatoes, beets (for pickling), and a lot of broccoli used to make broccoli parmesan. Yum. If I could only figure out what to do with a bunch of swiss chard now...I guess I can freeze it like spinach. I don't want anything to go to waste due to the weather.
We had a leftover dinner tonight - one piece of chicken, two hot dogs, and a bunch of fish sticks. Also beet greens, broccoli, leftover squash (from the garden), one half of a baked potato, and leftover pasta salad. Enough to feed four adults and three kids. The fridge is a whole lot cleaner now

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Getting back on the frugal track after birthday party for DS and a weekend visit from my parents
Checked out 2 books from the library
DH and I ate party leftovers for lunch and dinner
2 no spend days in a row (other than gasoline)
Put an extra $50 from savings account toward debt (unscheduled payment)
And I don't have to buy baby formula anymore now that DS is a year old...that will save some $$!!!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Went to the dump store today and one of the guys gave me a nice mesh stand up recycling bag. It had three sections so I can sort brown bags, newspapers and magazines, and the food boxes like cereal etc... Saves me time sorting before I go to the dump. Received 190 maxwell House points from the guys so this brings me to 6 free Coffee Carafe's and 5 gift certificates for Burpee Seed Co. for $15. I gave 4 of each to the guys at the dump and also my sister and mum. For all they do! The store was packed as this Columbus weekend was the last hurrah for yard sales and everyone dumps their leftovers! I spent most of the time browsing as I had so many bags of trash and recycles to drop off. I did see an interesting vintage wooden chair with a caned seat that needed replacing. It's one of my "things" that I aways look for...old, wooden chairs with little repair. We have a big L-shaped front porch and I love to finish them and put them out there...so shabby chic. Most I paint. My potting shed is full of winter projects which I bring one by one to the basement to work on. Hubby just shakes his head but is amazed at the beautiful results.
I've been hanging my clothes on a drying rack more often now that the heat comes on sometimes. Still opening the dishwasher to air dry rather than let the dry cycle do the job. Made a Ham- Corn chowder today and froze the smoked shoulder meat in freezer bags. Planning that pea soup for Friday morning cooking, nice ham bone with plenty of meat on it. This freezes well.
Where is everybody???? Haven't seen many new entries!

I can't beleive you haven't turned the heat on with 40 degree weather! Sounds like your house is well insulated!! My daughter is skinny and always cold! Plus, there is my grandson...

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
DH and I are still eating leftover lasagne....surprisingly I am not sick of it yet.
Cut up some peppers that I had leftover from the veggie tray and froze them for later use in sauces, etc.
Had 1 banana that was a little over-ripe so I put it in the food processer and froze it....I will use it to make banana bread when I have enough.
I have a wedding this weekend and have been going back and forth about buying a new dress ...Today I decided that I am going to wear a dress I bought on clearance this summer.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
No heat, unplugging everything in sight. Hitting the coffee pot to keep warm. Made myself a baked potato for lunch and we'll have chili-dogs for supper tonight. Took CashHappySon's car today on my errand, where while there he got to meet up w/his grandparents - and grandpa fixed his side-mirror on his little car. Ya-huuuu!! $$'s he doesn't have to spend to replace it.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
When I was at the store over the weekend, they had a sale on Green Giant vegetables 4 for $1. But, they were out of them. I asked for a raincheck, received it, and today I went to the store and bought my vegetables.

* went to walgreen's to pick up their rebate list & picked up DH's deoderant (i swear that boy goes through 3 sticks a week...)
* heard my father's voice tell me "put some clothes on" when i got chilly sitting in the house!
