Here are some things we do/did today:
We still don't have cable
I installed a programable thermostat in the living room, it turns on around 5:00pm and off around 11:00 - should get on for the bedroom but I turn the heater up at 10:00 and off when I get up.
I bought a UPS for our computer room/library/office and ran all our surge protectors to it and turn it off at night - every single device except the computer seems to have a DC converter that are alway hot which means they are alway sucking power. The UPS was about $40 more than buying another surge protector but the UPS is HEAVY and will sit on the desk where I can find it.
I take my showers at the gym.

Small steps but they add up

I am giving my husband the same valentine's day card that I gave him last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, etc.

Ima saver - I love that! We once recycled a card for my DH's brother to give to his other brother a few months later because it was a hilarious card that applied to both. But not something I typically do because my not-so-frugal DH and family would make fun of me!

Today I made a pot of soup with a leftover ham bone, made cookies from scratch as a Valentine's Day gift to DH, took snacks to work and drank water there.

No heat on, used the wood stove
Washed clothes on cold, full load.........had to use dryer, although pulled a couple heavier things out to hang on rack set near the wood stove fan
Used all leftovers for meals today
No driving, no spending
Transferred $100 from checking to new ING account, can't believe how easy this accout is.............I think I will save more, just because of the simplicity of it.
I'm keeping the closet door open where the hot water heater is. Won't heat the house, but the closet always felt warm..........
Lights out except for small lamp & nightlights
Using air dry on dishwasher all the time; run it only every other day
Made a batch of hot chocolate mix; should be enough to last a month or more

Went to Human Resources today and having them take out $100 out of my check instead of $60 every two weeks. Have them deposit in my one credit union that I very seldom go to so it won't be so tempting to take it out.
-Have heat down low
-took lunch to work
-Washed clothes in cold water and have them hung up to dry
-cooked by scratch today
-canceled our hollywood video acct. Savings $14.99 a month.
-lights off
-paid an extra $100 on my car payment. Want to get this car payment paid off as soon as possible. So, far I am three months ahead on my car payment.

Jodi, my girlfriend and I do that all the time. we send each other funny cards and we write on the post it notes and not on the cards. Then we mail them in manilla envelopes, so the card and envelope has not writing on it. Then we can each send them to another friend.

Today, I have the heat set at 59 and I am distilling my own water.

No heat here either. Never. We use the woodstove 24/7
I was going to go shopping but decided against it
I'm decluttering my house and packing stuff away for a yard sale which will eventually lead to some extra money

I think trading a card back and forth would be a great way to remember the years....

Today I actually line dried two loads of laundry, we will see if they both get dry though (limited space, but two small loads)

Ok, washed in cold water today, the heat did not run at all, it is set at 60, but it is 63 in here today. Did not go to town, so saved money in gas, didn't spend any money at all.

For the past week I have been painting and decoupaging an old end table I found in the trash. I decopaged the top, it is a collage of favorite rock bands. I painted the rest gold to match my living room and put 6 coats of semi gloss poly urethane over entire surface. If I may say so myself it's a work of art. My husband who is guitarist loves it. I am redoing my LR in a music theme. Since I had everything I needed except the paint. I spent $2 total for it.

I forgot to add that I'm also in the process of making LR curtains. I brought the material at Joann's on one of their 1/2 off days. My husband and I are doing all the work ourselves, from new wallboard to painting, to decorating. Since it's a slow process anyway I have gotten most of our supplies at 1/2 off. I just got a free $10 GC at Lowes so that will go to something we still need to finish up. The only thing that gonna be really expensive is the hardwood floors I want. But we will put that in ourselves too.

Thank goodness my husband can do work like that around the house. I got my whole bar remodled last week, flooring, tile, baseboard. It was pretty cheap except for the wine cooler. He also fixed the built in ice maker, so that it is working now, but is going to remain in the garage.

Yesterday, the heat did not run even one time. I have kept all the lights off and washed in cold water. I thought I might have to order more propane this winter, but now I think I might get by without having to get more.

I went to a free BBQ. The BBQ was to use up frozen leftovers from the community BBQ last fall, so only those who helped with the community BBQ were invited. My volunteer actions months ago resulted in a free meal today.

I also used a $2 coupon at the grocery and bought some needed items at the $ store.

Today the heat is set at 60. No lights are on except the one room that dh and I are both in. I am cooking a roast I got on sale yesterday. I don't plan on spending any money today.

I've gone almost a month now without having soft margarine spread in the house. I had switched to it, since I couldn't leave anything out at room temp at the other place & just forgot.
So, the much cheaper alternative is now the norm here.........cubed marg, purchased on sale of course. I think I use less too, when it comes off the cube, easier to measure, can be used for baking etc.

I had the contractor that was here for the bedroom bid, check out the attic for insulation (as long as he had to look at the trusses anyway). We're up to code on our insulation, which was something on my TO DO list here. I'll be checking on the crawl space for the same thing, when the remodel actually takes place!
