Made pancakes for DS and I for breakfast with leftover homemade batter from Sunday.
Homemade pizza for lunch.
Leftover curry chicken salad for dinner.
Didn't spend anything today.

Disneysteve- To freeze applesauce, you need to use a rigid sided container and leave 1" head space, toss it in the freezer. They recommend that you add the spices after you thaw the sauce because freezing diminishes the flavor. I also put a layer of plastic film across the top of the sauce. lynclarke

Absolutely....plus we have our grandson who loves applesauce. (I am a very young Gram!!" My sister-in-law makes apple pies and freezes them but I'm not sure if she bakes them first. I'll have to email her!

I picked up a second hand white metal cabinet from a FreeCycler. It's about 5 feet tall with plenty of shelves to store all of my craft paints and glues ect... Plus, she gave me some plastic shoe racks that stack, another good craft storage item, and a Brinks Home Security Box. No key but it will keep things safe from fire so my daughter is going to use it.

Wrote to Stouffer's last week about their family size meals and today they sent a coupon for up to $9.99 torwards a family size meal. Wrote to Campbell's Select Soups and they are sending a coupon for a free soup. Received my coupon for a free bag of cat food today. Rather a good day, lots of other freebie's came. Just wish my darn cold would hurry up and go away.

Washed and waxed the car. Tomorrow I will frugally stay home because I'll be too stiff and sore to move.

And let us not forget the eternal chicken, which manages to worm its way into at least one meal a day.

Bookie, just how big WAS that chicken?

Tonight DH and I pickled jalapeno peppers and he prepared the peppers for me to make pepper jelly tomorrow (I can't handle the peppers so I make him do it!). I made granola from scratch - so good! I swept through the garden to see what remained and came back with several beets (had for dinner tonight), swiss chard (dinner tomorrow), a few cherry tomatoes, peppers, and two yellow squash. Still have a ton of chard and beets left - not to mention the eternal jalapenos (already gave away 7 dozen on Freecycle).
Had leftover soup for lunch. Used up several cartons of yogurt in the fridge that were slightly past expiration.

The chicken weighed nearly 6 pounds. A BIG chicken.

Tomorrow it will make a farewell appearance in the eagerly-anticipated role of Chicken Tetrazzini. This will close a career that has included Poulet Roti, Chicken Salad, and an improvised Pilaf Almondine. Such versatility.

I've got a thing for simple vintage wooden chairs. I've been to the dump twice and passed on several. It has haunted me. The chairs I like are sort of 50's,I call them "kitchen chairs, or farmhouse chairs", heavier than today's new chairs which always seem to be so cheap and flimsy. These older ones are solid. They all vary a bit in style but rarely size . I like to paint them ivory and put them everywhere.....my home away from home-"the potting shed", the porch's, an empty corner. It's killing me, especially the one I saw today! I must give in and go get it. The dump usually charges me $1.00.

I'm emailing a couple of companies about their products, usually something I use all the time or something that costs me too much as they always send me coupons for comments. I think I read that Flash and Jeffery do this, too. At any rate it works. Sent in several rebates today which makes me happy!

Looking for the site that gives recipes for making large amounts of starter recipes like pancakes and muffins. I had a good one but didn't save it. I like the one that is for pancakes. You scoop out a certain amount of the flour mixture and all you have to add is milk, eggs and oil. It saves a lot of prep time. I use to store them in good rubbermaid or tupperware with the directions for mixing taped on the cover. There are always sales on flour ect.. Time is always my issue and why cook from scratch when you can have some things ready to mix!

Haven't tried this one myself, but I'm a big fan of Alton Brown, and trust his recipes:

Today I made jalapeno jelly (yum!) and attempted homemade yogurt (won't know for a few more hours if it worked or not). We ate some more chard from the garden in a 5-minute soup concoction (tomatoes, chicken broth, chard, and cheese raviolis) for dinner. I went shopping and saved almost 50% with coupons and sales (can't seem to hit that elusive 50% mark yet!).

Didn't do too much. Spent the day baking and freezing. My mom was impressed! It will be so much easier to come home from work and have things thawed out and ready to heat and serve. I'm big on salads and vegetables but this doesn't take long to do. Usually make a big salad to keep in fridge and it will last two days.

I think today will be my dump store day, lots of little errands and getting the garden cleaned up. Planning to catch sales at the local food stores which means hauling my trusty coupon container....all neat and organized. Still picking tomato's, green beans and green peppers. Brought in a lovely bunch of Zinnia's for the livingroom!

I browsed the stores for my neighbor who will be going into the hospital in November for a hip revision. She needs "jogging" suits and cuddle duds. I went to Gordman's- found a couple of things for her and a $2 camisole for me! Went to Dillards- whoa- if you have a Dillard's and any spare cash it is a good time to visit--75% off and an additional 30% off that. So basically, it is 82% off. I bought my husband a Nautica $55 summer shirt for $9.52, I bought me a two piece bathing suit (long top and boy shorts) normally $50 top, $52 bottom for $7.68!!!, I found her a pair of velour pants usually $36 for $7.50. and finally for my husband a Daniel Crimeaux Tshirt normally $36 for $4 something. Were we in critical need of these items?, No, but $193 worth of stuff for us for $23, ain't bad. lynclarke

I brewed a cup of coffee with my single cup brewer then spilled the whole thing So I made another cup with the same coffee grounds...I've heard of people doing that, but I have never tried it...the coffee tasted the same to me!
Used the oven to bake some oatmeal raisin cookies (dough made previously then frozen) at the same time I was cooking dinner.

A no spend day, had leftovers for lunch, no heat and a/c on, plus hot water has been off since the dishwasher ran last night.
