Cleaned out the fridge today and decided to use up a few things.
-half bottle of soda went toward jello - I like it better with bubbles, therefore I will eat more in place of other options.
-chicken carcass went towards soup base, which I will finish making for lunch tomorrow.
-leftover taco dip (sour cream with taco seasoning, cheese, lettuce) and two near-empty bags of stale, broken taco chips went into a taco casserole for dinner.

I packed DH's lunch for today and already packed another one for tomorrow. All he has to do is grab it in the morning.
I stayed home sick from work today due to a cold - but I kept the kids home too and saved $40 on day care

You might be thinking of hydrengas. Depending on the acidity or alkalinity of the soil, you can make them look pink, purple, or lavendar. I am not sure where green would come from, though.

Is that the shape of the flower you are talking about?

You are right! They are hydrengas! Mine as I said are white and they turn shades of pink and lavender but also each one has the very palest green. I purposely pick the ones with green. It is such a lovely palette of color. This particular variety is seen everywhere here in Maine, though many also grow the deep lavender-blue. Come spring I will be in the local nurseries to find a nice healthy hydrengas to plant somewhere on our land!!

Picked more of the fall raspberries that grow next door and mysister started making the jam. So far about 14 jars to put up. Still picking green beans, green peppers and tomato's. Have to start covering them as it is running 40 degrees at night!

I was so happy because the baby's checkup was excellent. The doctor said we could start to puree our own vegetables for him along with his own baby food. Great news since we pay .99 cents for the liitle 2-packs of Gerber! Even with coupons this really adds up every month!

I bought sugar free candy on sale. I did not know it was on sale, so I am going to go back and get some more tomorrow.

Noticed DH was out of maple syrup for his breakfast waffles, so instead of going to the store (where I KNOW I would have bought more than syrup) I baked a cake that he will eat for breakfast.
I was tempted to order pizza with a co-worker, but decided to eat my leftovers brought from home.

OMG....!! Guess what? The beautiful vintage rocker that I described in an earlier posting? My sister recognized it. It was hers. She decided no one ever used it so they hauled it to the dump and it was put up for auction which I was so proud to have won the bid on...for $30.00. Yep, the very one she paid $2.00 for at a yard sale!! My sister said "If I had thought of it I would have offered it to you before we took it to the "Transfer Station"!!! She promised she would always pass items by me in the future first! I still love my rocker. Matter of fact, when I stopped by the dump yesterday I found my antique dealer friend there scouting for items for her shop. I'm glad I got the rocker first! My sister and I had a huge laugh over this one. I can not believe I didn't recognize it when I bid! My friends at the dump must have taken pity on me, they didn't charge me for a rubbermaid storage container [large] or a sweet denim coat I found, 3/4 length! They also gave me a total of about 500 maxwell house points, some of which I used for a $15.00 gift certificate to Burpee Seeds. The rest went for coffee carafes for mom, sister and two of my favorite dump guys!

Ended up with 18 jars of Raspberry jam from all my picking. So yummy!

Yesterday we ate leftover homemade pizza for lunch.

Today we'll eat the leftover burrito stuff from last night's supper for lunch. And use 1/2 of the ground beef that we put back to make tonights supper...something pasta I think.

Used a $1.50 coupon for diapers
I didn't have a coupon for baby wipes so I bought a different brand. Cost about $1 less for a large case and got 32 more wipes.
Used a $1.00 coupon for TP on sale
Compared unit price on cat food and found out it is cheaper to buy the large cans than smaller cans. ($0.62/lb vs $0.97/lb)
Hand delivering 6 invitations to DS's 1st birthday party (save $2.34 on stamps)

Frugal today...hmmmmm... Nothing yet.

Huh.

That's sad. There has to be something...

Oh! Instead of buying a new bottle of water I refilled mine from the tap. I'll have to make sure I get on it and practice some more serious frugality tomorrow. Appears I've slacked today! =)

Big day! Went to the dump and found a vintage wood medicine cabinet....really solid. None of this flimsy cheap stuff. A little heavier than I'm accustomed to seeing on the market today. Found 2 sets of old wooden shutters..short ones, perfect to repaint for my garden shed. In excellent shape! A brand new package of christmas coasters, really sweet. And a pair of beautiful drapes in gorgous light blue and white stripes. Can't believe anyone threw these into the clothes bin. Not a stain or tear...like new. Also three bath towels, 2 pink and 1 blue. Can't find a thing wrong with them, like I just took them off a store shelf. Everything totaled $2.00!!

Picked enough green beans for about 8 meals, also 5 tomato's. Might do another batch of spaghetti sauce for the freezer. Used 5 banana's I froze for 2 banana breads. Sent away for a Burpee Seed gift certificate for $15.00 using my Maxwell house points...no S&H!!!

Ahhhh...I love days like these. Wish the husband figure could appreciate how hard I work to keep our household budjet way below what it would be if I wasn't such a frugalelf!

Was not happy with my daughter. She shopped for ALL the baby food for the month and di not bring the coupons. Could have saved at least $10.00. I'll do it next month. Looking for a baby food Puree thingy to do our own homemade veggies ect..!

I baked.

I've been keeping track of the recipe threads in the food forum, and today I became an impulse baker. Started out making a pan of muffins to use up some perishables. Since I had all the junk out anyway, I made a devil's food and cherry pie filling concoction someone recommended.

That should keep my sweet tooth satisfied for a while.

The real measure of my frugal depravity was cutting the cake while it was still warm and serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate syrup, and some leftover walnuts.

Groan.

My sister gave me 1 1/2 dozen fresh eggs...still have over a dozen in my fridge. Good sister but can I freeze them in some way??

My daughter hit a yard sale and the guy having it is a dentist. Came home with 10 regular size tubes "of Crest Pro", still in sealed boxes. Guess he had too much at the office. He was literally giving them away! Ok, we are stockpiled for toothpaste! I love free.

I'm going out to one of the many apple orchards to pick enough to last the next few months. It is quite a savings over food store prices and they are the freshest. Look out apple pie!!! I'm also going to hunt down corn stalks at the local farms to decorate my front and side doors. They want $4.00 for a scrawny bundle at the garden centers. Already have free pumpkins from my sister.

Frugalelf- You make us all jealous with your dump store finds. I have been looking for even a salvage store in this area without any luck. I guess places like Biglots and Deals takes all the salvage stuff these days. The best i have done lately is a clothes bag for travel at the local "Goodwill" for $7. I must have lent mine to someone because I could not find it any where. My husband said, "Don't worry, I go buy one". This is a man would would spend $100 at a blink of an eye. I said, "I'll keep looking". I went to the Goodwill bought the cheapo, used one and told him I "found" one in the back of the closet. It worked just fine. We NEVER travel with hanging clothes but we were flying to Texas for a promotion ceremony and I was not taking any chances that our clothes would go awry. Other than that I have only found good discounted meat buys at Sams. I am off to buy apples, too. We go through a lot of applesauce. lynclarke

I've been pretty frugal this week at least to an extent. I've been so busy with work and trying to get things done on my mom's estate, I haven't had time to do much else. I've fixed dinner four out of five evenings and took my lunch. I did stop and buy lunch yesterday because I was between buildings, but didn't get a huge one! Right now, after clearing out stuff from my mom's house, I have no desire to buy anything so when I die, no one has to do this! We had over 60 garbage bags of stuff to throw away. That's not including the stuff we are donating!
