Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I used a banana with a completely black peel for my smoothie.
I purposefully didn't take money with me today because my little voice told me if I did I'd spend it - turns out we had a fundraiser at work with chocolate bars, but I had no money and couldn't buy one.
I didn't run the AC in my car (it's 77 and sunny today).

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
My substitute for buttermilk is not an exact science. None of my cooking is.
I keep a container in the fridge of powdered milk already mixed up. I don't measure this either anymore. Just some powder & milk enough to make it look like 2% milk. More or less water.............it's still milk. Then, I pour out the required amount for my recipe, minus a bit, then add a glug of vinegar. Just enough to sour the milk. Stir a bit & let sit while I measure out other things............then, it is ready.
I find that having the powdered milk already mixed up in the fridge, I use it. Now, since I absolutely don't buy regular milk, it isn't a problem. But, before, I would use out of the regular gallon rather than mix up a cup or whatever the recipe called for.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I had left overs for lunch today, but I usually do if I have any. And yet another load of line dried clothes.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Well my heat is on 60 and there is snow on the ground. I keep it even lower upstairs where the computer is. When I get really cold, I walk on my treadmill.
I stayed home last night and did not eat supper out. I usually have 3 tv's on, I am down to 1 today. The hot water heater is off! Howmuch, you are doing great!!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I've had a $50 bill in my wallet and nothing else for the past 4 days and I haven't spent it because I don't want to breaka 50 for something under $4.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
1) I hung my wet laundry to dry. (probably saved 30 cents)
2) I baked a batch of muffins from scratch. (saved ~$1 off of a mix, and ~$6 off pre-made muffins)
3) I made coffee and took it in a travel mug when I left the house. (saved $1.35 from the coffee shop)
4) My kid carpooled to school with someone else (saved a few cents on gas)
Wow, I didn't realize I had done so much already! Every little bit helps.

I drank nothing but water all day long. Will go and turn on the hot water heater in a few minutes for a shower. First time it has been on since yesterday.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Made bean soup tonight from canned beans and kielbasa out of the freezer (no grocery store trips and cleaner cupboards/freezer!). Enough left for lunch tomorrow.
Took a snack to work today.
Set the dryer for about 10 minutes less to see if I can cut back drying time.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I resisted the urge to pick up the phone and call BIL (long distance), that alone saved several dollars

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I took my TracFone from my 17 year old. I have it for emergencies, and he seems to think he can just use it whenever. I guess I'll have to hide it (like I hide food from him).

Umm food? you hide food? As a recent teen and a currently constnatly eating person I can tell you nothing is worse than 'providers' (parents) withholding food. I know you think he gets enough, but....Umm it is food!!!!! if you don't like the quality, buy less don't hide. (and buy more good for him stuff!!!!!!!!)
I can see a nice clear label on what is for dinner, but make sure there are alternatives! It takes alot ot grow a 17 year old boy! (I am a girl and it took a lot to grow me! Not to mention growing the three little ones around here, one of whom still gets all his calories from me, 3 month old)

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I am drying clothes with 2 dry towels in the dryer. It seems to make clothes try faster. I have all the lights off except for the room both dh and I are in right now. He is drawing house plans while I am on the computer.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I can see hiding treats. I don't stop deserving treats because my teen can't be trusted not to devour the whole container in a single sitting.
I don't have teens yet, but when they become teens I plan to have lots of healthful foods available at all times. But my treats? They will be hidden away and occasionally doled out. I remember being a teen and being unable to stop eating the "good stuff" when it was there. When it wasn't there, I was plenty happy with an apple or banana or PB sandwich.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I had to hide snack food from my teen age daughter, she was terribly overweight. I just sent my teen age grandaughter a birthday card that I did not buy. I sometimes get free cards from different charities asking for donations. She will care more about the check I sent, than the card.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I'm off from work today - I contemplating grabbing breakfast out somewhere, but I made instant oatmeal here and made coffee here.
Tried to check out graduate assistantships online for the program I'm hoping to get into, but the website isn't working from outside the school's network. So I'm going to drive 7 miles to the University and look up the info at their library, which is slightly irritating. But in the long run, this will hopefully save me lots of money if I get an assistantship! (Tuition for a couple courses + a stipend, every semester).

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I had my hubby cancel the dish network. A savings of $40 per month. Now we get 4 free channels. Im looking for a good deal on basic cable now. I was tired of paying for shopping channels and junk tv.
