Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I turned off the a/c and I am only running a fan in the house.
Yesterday I went rummaging in a huge subdivision for kids clothes, I dont' like to pay retail if I don't have to.

I have alot of cat food left, the soft kind. I forgot how much my outside dog loves it, so I am going to start giving her one pack a day.

We're going on vacation soon and I wanted (stressing wanted) a new swimsuit. It's raining today so we did go recreational shopping I tried on some suits, came so close to buying one. But....decided my old one will do nicely.

It is amazing how much people spend on clothes. No one really notices your clothes that much unless they are just outrageous!

Good work, Somerlyn! Sometimes if I give myself "permission" to buy, and then don't, I get the satisfaction of getting the new item without actually spending any money. Maybe that sounds weird. But don't you feel better about using the old one another season since you decied that after trying on new ones? It's like you know what's out there-there are no secret fabulous suits hidden from you!
Spent no money. It's been five days since I spent non-regular bill money, and that was basic groceries-no frills. It's been nine days since I spent discretionary non-need money.

My daughter took pity on my togs and gave me a pair for a present. Maybe I should have been a little more in fashion. It wasn't a frugal thing, I just don't take a lot of notice in that area.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Today me and my mom went to a local hardware store to buy some stuff with a $10 gift certificate she got from State Farm for her birthday. The total came to like $8.50, or something like that, and the cashier said, "I can't give change." My mom said that was okay, I however, was not satisified. I figured if you're not gonna give change back, then you can't just leave $1.50 on the table. I quickly looked around the store for about 5 seconds in desperation before I spotted a bottle of Aquafina water in a cooler case with a bunch of other 20 ounce bottles, cost - $1.09. I would have taken pop, but I wasn't in the mood at the moment. Anyway, I walked over to the cooler, grabbed the bottle, and said to the clerk, "This will suffice!" Obviously it was on the house. I just figured you might as well use the whole $10 if you're gonna use it!

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Today I unplugged some things around my house that I don't use. I guess it's frugal. I'm just not sure it will save me money. Worth a try anyways. I also turned off lights when I wasn't in a particular room.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I bought a gift card for a friend's birthday a little early so that my husband can hand deliver it when he sees her on Thursday. Saved me 37 cents for postage. Also I got a free pair of underwear in the mail (too small) that I'm sending up with him since they should fit her.

Free 16pc Summer Flatware Set & Arnica Hand Balm with any order, plus a 15% off cpn. at that botanical website.. i was gonna order the 15 pc. fragarance set.. $1.66 after cpn and a $4.95 shpg chg... i could not get it to go thru mypoints, to use the insider shipping thing.. they kept taking me to another website.. even after i added the stuff to my shopping bag and closed my window and went back in thru mypoints... just an example of that article i read a while ago, that told about retailers, that show different pages to their customers.. so, i did not do the deal.... no sale... no spend.....

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
The town where we live is in drought and has severe water shortages. Since we shower and don't use the bath I've joined up a hose to the plumbing and we water the gardens. We save the cold water that is usually wasted when you turn on the tap before it runs hot.
It's working and just keeping the gardens going.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I recently put all computer devices with converters under the control of 1 button so those little power suckers are off when I don't need them. I just counted them, there are 6 of them for the various devices (speakers, modems, monitor, routers, etc). As long as they are plugged in they convert a small amount of power to heat so I turn them off when I shut down the pc at the end of the day.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I have not bought dog food for my outside dog for months. Those free bags of dog food were great. I am also eating my leftovers that I bring home, instead of giving them to the dog.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I did not go to the grocery store today (my regular day) but scoured the pantry for unexpired items and the leftovers to see what I could make for dinner.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
I just sent back something I ordered from a vitamin store. They said if I was not satisfied to sent it back, and I had a pre paid label from them. So I tried it for free, and did not waste my money on it.

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?
Today I car pooled for a meeting I had to go to out bush. It was 2 hours each way so the savings were worthwhile. I also got to meet a person I didn't know before. I sure leart a lot about him in the 4plus hours travelling.

When I go to the drive in window at the bank, I put the windows down and turn off the engine.

The value of this depends on how long you would be idling. A test (conducted by Edmunds) showed that if you would be idling for longer than a minute, you'd be better off shutting the engine off and then restarting it rather than idling. Shorter times of idling versus turning the engine off and restarting it are, at best, a wash.
The FTC also recommends avoiding excessive idling, but doesn't give a time-frame. They only state if you would be at idle for a "lengthy wait" then you should turn the engine off.
In other words, its a good tip. But I wouldn't turn my engine on and off for a 30 second wait. Otherwise, it's frugal!
