This is a 3 day weekend. Fri morning I planned out all my shopping & errands so I would put on the LEAST number of miles & spend as little time as possible mindlessly running around. I even reset my trip meter so I could make sure I drove NO more than if I drove 1x to work and back in all 3 days.
did all my east of home stuff Friday - had to hit the dry cleaner as they had a special going that was about to expire so did EVERYTHING east of me. I'll pick it up on my next week east run.
Planned to do a west of me run today (Sat the 4th) but realized the one MUST do today I could walk to and push off the west run until Sunday (fruit market, CVS, WAG, dollar store). Therefore NO driving (spending on gas). Instead I will do laundry, some cleaning and a bunch of cooking to cover most of my meals for the week (chicken, pork fillet, hot dogs, potatoe salad). I might walk to our local business area to watch our local parade-can't park within 6 blocks anyhow so whats another 6 blocks. Might treat myself to a specialty coffee (NOT Starbucks) or fast food lunch (value menu) since I am saving on gas/car expense.

What Frugal thing did you do today?
I rode my bike to work today. This saves about $2.00 per day, or about $40.00 per month. I think it's starting to add up.

Exercise, save money, and help the planet at the same time. It feels really good to kill three birds with one stone.

We had gone to bed...
and then I remembered my daily night routine: unplug everything in the home office.
Just thought I dropped a note to mention to all - hey what did you expect? Good night.

Let's see: 1) stored angel food cake in fridge til past expiration date. If it had been stored on the counter, I wouldn't had to throw it out. 2) Used previously frozen milk in my cereal today--stocking up on milk (then freezing it) saves me trips to the store midweek where "running for milk" ends up costing about $40. 3) I am line drying beach towels that were barely used without washing them. 4) I brewed my own green tea this am instead of Starbucks.

Ha I've done that lots of times. I thought it was just because I'm too lazy to wash them! It's great to discover that I *really* was doing it to save money! No but really, some people want a freshly washed towell every time they shower, but for some people it's ok if they simply dried and reused a few times, maybe three. I think we're spoiled sometimes. and besides, there's someone else in the household that will let me know if they get too dirty.

Today I lined dried two loads of laundry, diluted some vit. D milk to make 2%, and stayed home to paint my dining room. Hope to have a NSD. Oh also made 5 minute bread.

Instead of throwing out a old boxspring that no one wanted, I broke it apart because it wouldn't fit in my car to go to the dump. Then realized I could use the wood slats inside of it to make a trellis for my grapes and tomatoes.
So I didn't have to pay the dump (ok just a little for the fabric part) and I didn't need to buy wood for trellis.

My oldest was craving pizza so we made it homemade. We used the wheat bread dough (see prior post), made the sauce, and used vegies from the garden. We had good quality time and the pizza was awesome!

Instead of letting my dishwasher go onto the heated dry cycle, I just popped it open and let the dishes air dry.

I grew up without a dishwasher, actually until about when I was 17 years old. I remember the first time we tried it at home. My Dad used regular soap instead of dishwasher soap, and it leaked all over the floor, creating this huge mess. Ever since then, I've just had this thing about dishwashers. I'm always afraid of the same thing happening again, so I just wash dishes by hand.

Made the right decision
Instead of buying 4 tickets for a major league baseball game (cost ~ $500), bought tickets to a local minor league game and had a blast! Total cost including hotdogs and beer - $67 bucks...Nice!

I like this one. I live close to Des Moines, home of the Chi Cubs triple-A affiliate, and their games are pretty fun to attend. I still wouldn't mind taking a trip to Chicago sometime to see the big Cubbies play, but minor league games can definitely still be fun.

Frugal
I love watching movies so I often go to the theaters. I am a student so I get the discount and its only 1/4th a mile from my house so we usually walk, but ive decided to start renting older movies that I have never seen before.
I made a list of all the movies I wanted to see using the IMDB top movies of all time list. When I got to Blockbuster I realized they are trying to compete with the RedBox machines and now only charge $1 a night for old DVDs. I was able to get a candy and a movie and save about $5 over going to the theater.

This definitely works well with baseball. I go to baseball games to mostly hang out with the people I go with. I dont think I could do that for basketball though, I love watching the Suns play. I do sit in the cheapest seats in the arena though...

I am taking 8 kids and the husband to the zoo. Today is $2 homeschooling day. 2 of the kids are young enough to get in free. So, $16 admission. We have lunch packed except for our meat--it is also $2 hotdog day and I have coupons for 4 free hotdogs, so $12 for lunch. We have water bottles and are taking our own mix for it, chips, cookies we baked yesterday, pudding, jello and fruit.
So for under $30 10 of us are going to spend 8 hours at the zoo. Plus, I get paid for it because 2 of them I am babysitting...

Impressive. And I like how you worded that, instead of "My husband and I are taking..". Haha!
