Default Generic Drugs

My doctor says that some generic drugs don't work as well as the name brand ones while others are fine as a replacement. I have saved money using generics, but have also had generics that don't work quite as well as the brand name medications.

If you are going to switch to a less expensive brand or a generic brand, first ask if the doctor has samples (he/she may of newer competing brands) If not, ask to have a trial prescription filled. That way if the new medication doesn't work well for you, you haven't paid for a full prescription.

Default Re: The Daily Money Saving Challenge

Lucky me. Usually I have already done the daily challenges or they don't apply to my situation. However, the Christmas one certainly did. That should help a lot. Not just with money but with anxiety.
I would like to add something about presciption drugs. Most drug companies have a program where eligible people can get prescriptions FREE. I am fortunate to have a prescription plan with my dh's retirement so I'm not familiar with the requirements of the drug companies plans. But I do hear more and more people say they are receiving their prescriptions this way. And I do know it's very easy to at least apply for it. All you have to do is ask your doctor! Every application goes through them. So, as you should know by now, "it never hurts to ask". Try it next time you see your doctor. I know I am keeping it in mind in case we ever lose our prescription plan (retirement plans aren't ironclad these days). Pam

That's interesting - I was under the impression that generics are supposed to be equivalent to their name-brand counterparts. I wonder if there's a list of which drugs have comparable generic versions and which don't.
