Default Notebook computer stand

I was wondering if anyone has ideas on this... I have a notebook computer that I like to use while sitting on the couch. Until now, I've used a regular TV tray to set the computer on, and it's worked reasonably well. But now my 1-year-old is moving around, thinks it's a toy and tries to knock it over. Not so good.

So anyway, I'm looking for some kind of stand that sits to the side of the couch with a swinging arm that will position the notebook in front of me. This laptop cart is kinda what I'm talking about, but when I tried it, the base leg is too tall and won't fit under the couch. (Apparently it's designed more for a bed.)

I've been looking around the 'Net and found this laptop computer desk which seems promising, but is expensive ($150). Plus the site looks kinda unprofessional, making me leery of buying it. Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? TIA.

Could you take off the rollers and use slide tape, or will it still not fit under the couch?

Tried that. Even without the rollers it was too tall, but also the stand became very wobbly. The clearance under the side of the couch is probably a max of 1 inch.

I need the base to slide under the side of the couch, and then have an arm so the computer is in front of me. Kinda like how the tray tables in hospitals work.

Since I have an end table on that side of the couch, my son can't get over to that side and try to knock over the stand. I hope that makes sense?

I'm also open to other suggestions as well. Perhaps there is a better solution I haven't thought of.

I still use the TV stand but then leave the lap top on the dinning room table when its not being used otherwise.... Good luck in your search though!

What about those trays that have like a cushioned or bean bag bottom? I just put it on my lap but thats an idea.

I didn't mean to sound rude, just that my laprop is currently sitting on the couch beside me as I nurse my DS . I think a hospital table would be cool, but the leg room is an issue. Can you slide the leg part under the end table and turn the table part around torward the couch? I bet some model does that somewhere.

I'm thinking that both types of laptop carts are going to be easy for the 1 yr old to pull down. (and if not the 1 yr then sometime during toddler-hood). I use the cushioned bean bag tray.
