Inexpensive Shirts
Well, I saw a flyer for Haband flannel shirts. I bought six shirts for 42 dollars which also included shipping. The shirts are a little thin but I have worn them with thermals and they seem to be just fine.
The shirts came through a cold water wash and a line drying just fine. I figure how can you go wrong with a 7 dollar shirt. Granted it is not the best but if it holds up then I figure I am ahead of the game.
Any opinions?

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
If it works for you, it works for me.
What wash cycle do you use? I used to use normal when a friend told me her father used to sell appliances at Sears and always counseled his customers to use the gentle cycle. Unless your clothes are very soiled it doesn't make sense to agitate and further stress the fabric.
I tried this tip out for myself and discovered it really works! Less pilling and stretching and way fewer stray threads. My clothes look newer for a longer time.
Also, turn them inside out when you wash. If you make a mistake with colors at least the inside of the garment gets screwed up where no one needs to be looking anyway.

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
And Kat - if you hang them on a line, they will fade, so you'd rather the insides fade (I ruined several shirts before I figured it out).
I have a front loader, so it doesn't stretch the fabric. Just a nice gentle tumble and then a really fast spin.

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
So the trick is to wash on the gentle cycle and dry inside out. I'll give it a shot.

True. And only wash in cold water. This also helps preserve the fabric and tinting in the clothing.

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
I'm a k-mart clearence freak I won't pay more than $5 for any kind of shirt. Sometimes I luck out and find some @ rummages for next to nothing. I got dh some polo shirts for .50 & a Eddie Bauer long sleeve jean shirt for him for .25! I found some t-shirts for me last summer for .25! Plus my dh trashes his t-shirts pretty quick so it's not worth wild for me to pay full price, especially if it's a white shirt *L*
thanks pp's for the washing tips as I do line dry most everything.

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
i love off season sales. i got my kids all kinds of st louis cards stuff at walmart 3-5 a piece. just buy off season, it works! i use a front loader too and the perm press cycle is shorter then the normal. i already do the cold water part, so using gental to me might not get my clothes clean as perm press does. i do have a presoak, but i think using that and gental might be a bit redundant.lol

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
I have fun with t - shirts.
First I dye them any color I want. Then I cut the hem off. Stretch this to high heaven. Then cut it in half. Sew it down one side of the length. Then invert it. This is my belt to tie around me. Then I hem the bottom of the shirt. This is a pretty look.
Or I do Latticing around the neck and sleeves.
Or I do laticing around the neck, sleeves, and bottom.
I also cut around the crew neck, and over to the arm hole. Remove excess. Pretty tank top.
I also cut the first seam off the neck of sweat shirts. Then I have just the one left. Nice look.
I take a plain T - shirt, and sew on an applique. Then I make pants to match with the same applique.
I also take a colored t - shirt, and cut holes along the sides. Then I cut 2- 1'' wide strips off the bottom. Sew the seams closed. Then lace up the sides with these.
I change shirts to so many pretty looks. These are all cheap shirts to begin with. But boy when I finish. Wow!
I also take a cheap sleeveless tee shirt, or a short sleeve, and make them look like suede. So pretty.
Or I'll cuff my t- shirts, and shorts to match.
I get a lot of looks when I go out. Like where did you find your clothes. It's enjoyable for me.
I've taken long sleeve thermal t - shirts, and made cute little dresses out of them for my girls.
Making changes like this is so much fun.
I've taken white sweat clothes, and dyed them. Then dyed my socks and sneakers to match. You should see the heads turn with those outfits.

Re: Inexpensive Shirts
I always buy my shirts in cotton (well I research in cotton so I am a bit particular) I always buy them 4 sizes too big at 75% off.
Then I wash my shirts in hot water and dry them in the highest temperature setting. The shirts then become much smaller, the weaves and knits much tighter, and the fabric much thicker in general.
My shirts last a long time!!! I am not too particular with shirts. I am a very non-picky person. Usually I just get my shirts from someone who outgrows them.
