Default Women and DIY

Obviously doing the DIY yourself would be cheaper than hiring somebody. Do the girls here do their own handywork?

Dad taught us (my sis and I) to: change the wall-plates for the electric plugs, change the seals on our faucets and shower, change the cord on a lamp, change a tire....

But....it is not expensive to have someone do this for you in ES, so we save our knowledge for emergencies only!

Absolutely! Best gift I received last year was a new tool belt so I wouldn't have to keep adjusting my husbands.

I wish I could say I was handy ! Well, I paint, pressure wash and do stuff in the yard, but that is the extent of it for me. Generally have to find a guy to help me with the other stuff.

I've been doing my own handiwork for years. Even when I was married!!! I did a better job and completed the projects quickly. Even with the atuo maintenence.

Well I fail miserably at all houshold stuff, I wont plunge a toilet, and I can't hammer a nail straight, but then DH can't sew a button or roast a turkey, so we share the load .

I do just about everything myself, from replacing light fixtures, toilets, sinks, etc... to tiling and installing cabinets. I am pretty much "self taught" by reading and researching how to do things on the internet. I will only hire someone if it is an extremely difficult task or requires expensive tools that I don't want to rent or buy. I will not touch cars, however - but I take care of nearly everything else!

well, i mow my 1.5 acres with a push mower all summer long. I can do simple manual labor like scraping, priming and painting. But i'm not very handy, and usually make a phone call and pay through the nose.
