Calculate your BMR to determine how many calories you should be eating. Then follow a balanced exercise regimen:

1. Strength training: Work all major muscle groups at least 2 times per week
2. Cardio: Interval training / sprints at least 3 times per week (warm up, run/bike/treadmill as hard as you can for 30-60 seconds, rest for 90-180 seconds, repeat 5 times)

This is a great recent article from "Details" magazine (just ignore the headline that says stop worring about calories):

Common misconception. You cannot 'spot reduce' fat by working out a single area. In fact, sit ups and crunches (on their own) may increase muscle mass - making your stomach seem larger.

How to reduce belly fat:

1. Eat a healthy diet
2. Perform a healthy amount of exercise

If you are saying to yourself, "what is a healthy diet?" or "well I don't know how much exercise I can do..." then schedule an appointment and ask your doctor how to get started.

You're all wrong. It should be:

1. McDonalds
2. Beer
3. Sit on couch and watch sports

Follow that and you will be a machine in no time!

There are two issues, extra fat and flabby muscles. It's possible to have extra fat but toned muscles or no extra fat and flabby muscle tone.

To lose the fat, you have to burn more calories in a day than you ingest. Even then, your body decides where to remove the fat, which might be in a place where you don't want, unfortunately. If you really don't have any extra fat and the muscles just aren't toned, then you can exercise to tone those muscles.

Since this is a financial forum and not a fitness forum I'll say save lots of money so your wallet is really big and heavy. Carrying around all that extra weight will knock off those stubborn pounds and you'll be rich to boot

Agreed. I began running Half Marathon this year (4th in Nov in Big Sur and completed 10K in July) and my belly fat are almost gone. Even more lowered my overall cholesterol count and lost almost 40 pounds of weight. Feel much better overall

Low-carbohydrate nutrition is the most-effective way of shedding pounds of fat from the body.
