Default Why work 2 jobs?

I thought this was funny from the New Hampshire Craigslist. Evidently somebody out there is still buying.

"Frames for Artists - $10

14 frames available for your Art work since wife upgraded to higher cost frames (husband working 2 jobs now)"

Frames for Artists

That's funny. Although I wouldn't think so if it were my wife who had upgraded 14 picture frames. Those things aren't cheap. A decent frame can easily sell for $100 and up.

I think that's the second job joke. Maybe those are the super cheap frames from Wal-Mart? Although, even those aren't too cheap. I knew a framer--she made dang good money just framing and selling them.

That's no joke. I do framing myself for all of my photography, and it's legitimately expensive depending on the style of frame you use. Last month, I framed a set of 4 large painting prints as gifts, and the materials cost $180...with a 20% discount! Then, cost of building/assembling the frames, shop fees, custom-packing them for shipment, and mailing them was only $125. That's a fairly standard convention--materials are generally double to triple the actual assembly cost.

If you're going to do a custom frame-job (as opposed to just buying something pre-fab), you've got to like it. Make that kind of decision slowly/carefully, because mistakes or changing your mind is expensive! Plus, most frame shops charge an additional disassembly fee!

That's correct. If you're not doing a frame-job yourself, most shops charge at least a 40%-50% markup on the cost of materials as the labor fee. An overpriced shop (which are common) will charge up to 70% for labor. That's why I started to frame my work myself.
