well in reverse order.
Cool is defined by what we would like to be, so if you think the thug with pants around his knees is 'cool' then wearing pants so low you can't walk is now 'cool' to you. (though that thug is more than his pants, so dropping yours or picking up smoking wont turn you into a cool person) Advertising can help, for years all the good guys and cool bad ones smoked. Are they a drug? YES! very much chock full of drugs just waiting to be absorbed in your lungs (or via second hand smoke someone else's lungs) Why is it hard to quit, multiple reasons. 1. they are an addictive drug, meaning your brain gets used to the feeling and starts demanding it. 2. they are a habit, humans are creatures of habit, we like making them, not breaking them. 3. smoking is usually used as stress relief, so when you need a break, it is hard to relax without your usual crutch. |

Cigarette tobacco contains Nicotine. A highly addictive drug. The human body gets hooked and then craves it.Nicotine is used in the making of cigarettes and most people use it as a depressant. It also causes the release of natural chemicals in our brain called beta-endorphins. These chemicals cause us to feel more alert and calm. The problem is that nicotine isn't stored in the body so these effects last only a few minutes. We need to absorb more and more nicotine to make the effects last.

I'm a non-smoker, not even once...
It's not a drug but people made smoking a habit... I don't think there's any help you can get in smoking... But a golden CANCER and a 29" brand new colored TB (tuberculosis)... Is that right?! ![]() |

Wow, you must have been living under a rock since 1950!
It's well known that the cigarette companies have maintained addiction by manipulating the amount of nicotine. It was even revealed in Congressional testimony that internally they have called cigarettes a "nicotine delivery system". The companies acted like drug dealers - they were drug dealers - and have killed more people than the Columbians. Recently, the FDA has been given the power to regulate cigarettes as a drug. Surely it's going to hit the fan when they have an outright ban on adding nicotine to cigarettes. They don't have to ban cigarettes directly. This will put the nail in the coffin, so to speak. |

Cigarettes are addictive because they have chemical called nicotine in it. Nicotine makes your body dependant on it and finally you land up being a slave. It is more addictive then alcohol.

Me and My girlfriend stopped smoking 1.5 years ago.
I was 25 she was 24, I had been smoking a pack a day since I was 17 her a pack every other day for about 4 years. We quit cold turkey, no help. It came down to us wanting out of debt, and smoking didn't fit into our budget, and that was back when cigs were 3-4$ a pack, and not the 5-7.50$ a pack in florida these days. The end of week 1 was the roughest for me, and the mornings of week 1 were the roughest for her. Now I can't even stand to be around smokers, I find it un-attractive, and gross. It all comes down to will-power and the want to quit. You can't make someone quit, that themself don't want to quit, that's with anything in life. |

It's funny, my hubby and I both smoke, he smokes ciggs, and I smoke weed...and when either of us runs out, it's hilarious...because I can go without smoking, it's not that addictive for me, I enjoy a toke, but would not rob someone or pawn anything for it, I don't "freak" out...my hubby on the other hand, get's very irritated, cant go without smoking, and gets terrible headaches...I tease him all the time and tell him he smokes drugs...we joke because he tries to clown me on the marijuana...but that's never made me feel like the ciggs have made him feel...it's practically a vegetable!

i always looked at cigarettes as a total peer pressure drug. When it comes to hard drugs, and I don't do either.. but I get why people take heroine. It makes sense because their down in the dumps. Cigarettes is purely marketed on peer pressure. Most people I know who took up smoking, at some point where trying to "fit into" society and were offered it and just took a hold of it.
