Treadmills are fine, but I'm partial to ellipticals. I have been able to do much more on my elliptical because of the low impact.

I have a wii, a wii fit and an elliptical. We love ours. Have had it since January. I have not been as avid a user as I should be but sometimes scheduling just isn't my friend. I like being able to have options. Sometimes I use the elliptical other times the wii. I have done games on my wii and been sweating by the time I am done. I am sure that if someone is a super workout person they wouldn't like it but for someone that hates to exercise it is great. you don't feel like you are. you feel like you are just playing. I do some of the balance games and even those can work up a sweat.

Join a community rec program. They are far more efficient then video games.

This is not always an option. I recently moved back from North Carolina, so now we have limited options here. Gold's Gym is one option. They charge a sign up fee of about $100 and a monthly fee of around $50. That is $400 a year. Not even paid in full, but every year. WAY to expensive! plus takes at least 15 minutes to get there. In durham I tried to join the YMCA. After I paid the join fee of $150 then it would me a monthly fee of about $60. That is a lot money to put out every month. plus gas to get there. So actually the Wii is less expensive in the long run. I think it depends on where you live to determine whether or not a gym is an option. I know that gyms offer more options to work out but they also cost a lot every single month. and most of them require a contract of at least one year.
