Default Can't wait for it to be over....

Alright, I fully believe in the importance of a popular vote bringing new leadership to the head of our country. But I'm to the point that I just want it to be done with. Since last March, we've been hearing increasingly more about the political campaigns of this guy (or girl... sorry, Hillary) or that, what so-and-so says about whoever, and so on.

It's gotten to the point that I can't turn on the news for 2 minutes without hearing the "latest" in the presidential campaigns, which really, hasn't seen any significant change over any given week. In short, I can't wait for this election to be over. Maybe if the campaigns didn't sprawl over 18 months or so, I wouldn't feel so frustrated with it all. But now, I just want to get it done and over with.

I WANT MY NEWS BACK! IT'S BEEN HIJACKED BY THE ELECTION!!!

I couldn't agree more. Since school has started, there has been the "Progressive Future" people, petitioners, and tables set up for each candidate on campus. They are beyond annoying. For over a month, you couldn't walk 10 feet with being asked "Are you registered to vote?" Answer yes, and you are pestered to sign a petition. Answer no, thinking you'll outsmart the petitioners, and you are pestered to register to vote.

Registration to vote in the upcoming election is over in my state, but we still have the Obama and McCain groups now promoting early voting and giving away posters, etc. The Obama group has a sign that says "We have cookies".

The biggest hassle was when Obama came to school to speak. Apparently 12,000 came to see him. Parking was a mess because everyone was parking illegally in zones they weren't supposed to park in. Classes held in the buildings around the quad where he was speaking were difficult to get to because you had to go through security and then go ALL the way around the quad.

My city has been called the swing city. Where the city goes, the county goes and supposedly the state also (according to the news). Local news stations have recently been saying that this election is coming down to one specific street in my city too.

I'm looking forward to voting, but I just want it to be over with.

Oh good grief.. there is a very good but old sci fi story about one fellow being charged with 'the vote' since computers can 'extrapolate' from results so quickly. franchise (no idea how close the movie is but judging from I robot not in the slightest)

really all the 'swing states' and red ones and blue ones... if it is all so simple why do the rest of us even bother to show up on election day? (or the weeks prior)

technically, with the electoral college set up as it is, the number of people voting doesn't entirely matter. whichever candidate gets the greatest proportion of popular votes, the electors are supposed to all vote for that person. so if only 3 people voted, one for Joe and two for Bob, Bob would carry the state. however, when there are hundreds of thousands of people voting for one person, you need hundreds of thousands more to vote for the other if they're going to win. So that's where "each vote counts" comes in.

However, I know there is some room there for that not to always be the case, such as in the madness with Florida in 2000, where Gore had more of the popular vote, but Bush got the electoral votes... not entirely certain of how this works, but I figure it'll all work out in the end....

Oh, and one more thing.... considering that I live in Florida (one of the 'swing states'), I'm very glad that I have a cell phone number from a different state, which of course is not listed in the white pages.... Robocalls... arg....

I agree, my phone rings 10 times a day. Plus the candidates are spending so much money. Obama (I read) is spending 4.5 million a day on advertising. I wish this money could go to pay down the national debt instead of being wasted every day.

haha awesome idea. or, since he wants to help out lower-income families while in office, why wait? Just send that cash to some sort of charity. 4.5M/day? man, I wish I had that kind of pocket change...

I'm glad that I have a cell phone that's not listed too. I guess I forgot all the phone calls we've gotten in years past and haven't had to deal with now! Nice!

It's already said to be one of the longest running presidential campaigns in history. On the other hand, considering how close it is, I suppose campaigning early was the right thing to do.
