Default Weird question - anyone ever use a netti-pot?

I used it for the first time tonight. My right nostril is very clogged up due to a cold. When I used the netti pot on my right side, it worked beautifully. When I used it on the stuffy side, it didn't flow as easily and went down my throat a few times.

Am I doing something wrong? I followed the directions that came with it...

You have to hold your head properly to avoid that issue. Also, if you are really clogged, you may have to pour more slowly and push a little air through your nose too. In such cases, you may not can avoid having a little trickle down your throat, however, it shouldn't be much. Usually, as stated, that means you're holding your head a little off from proper position. Be careful that you aren't shifting your head position too much when using one hand to hold the pot as opposed to the other.

I think the Neti Pot is great, particularly for nasal allergies, but also just for feeling clean and refreshed.

This is the one I have.

I keep saying I need to get one of these because I have serious year-round allergies, but I keep forgetting. I need to go put it on my list now so I don't forget yet again this week. Thanks for reminding me!

I get terrible sinus infections and on the suggestion of a coworker bought one last year. It worked fabulously for awhile, but whenever I used it, eventually my sinus infection worsened. I don't know why, but it blew my mind. I really liked the thing and felt so clean afterwards. People swear by them.

You may try blowing your nose before doing the other side. I find that helps.

I have serious sinus issues and did try this but it did not help me. as a matter of fact it caused more problems. I used it according to directions, the packet of mix the whole thing. When I was done within about 10 minutes I couldnot breathe at all through my nose. Inside my nose was completely swollen shut. LIterally. Had to sleep sitting up. A couple days later I am feeling better and thinking it was me and my sinus's I tried it again. Same reaction. I have never felt such pain. I will never use this again. I did remember a similar reaction when i would swim as a child. Not as bad but it always is painful for water up my nose. Not just annoying, painful. But I do know that they help some people

I have one and use it regularly. I don't use the salt water mix any longer, just plain water. There is definitely a learning curve to using the thing!

Better to use one of these than to use drugs! It's been used since ancient times, I say go for it. I never have a problem with congestion or allergies, but my dad uses one.
