I sometimes use Ask.com. link

The returns are often quite different from Google.

Others, like MSN/Live, Yahoo, etc. typically don't prove nearly as useful as Google or Ask IMO.

there is one where you get a live chat window helper...you can use it for regular search, but if you want a helper they will. I used it for a recipe once and they understood what I wanted, and brought back excellent sites right away..the first of which told me I had missed the window for cooking and the thing was rotten already

I should have mentioned Dogpile as well. With their search tool you get results from Google, Yahoo, Live Search, and Ask all-in-one. Plus they have ready access searches for white and yellow page listings as well.

lol... i remember about 8 years ago or whenever it was google had just arrived on the scene my little cousin (maybe 1st or 2nd grade) was just learning in school about searches and she said her teacher said to use google. i remember getting annoyed saying that there are a lot better engines out there ..i used "ask jeeves" at the time (now known as ask.com). NOW, i can't imagine doing without google..its the only engine i use - i even have the toolbar and use it every time im on the internet.

Personally I like goshme.com because of how good it is. When you go to Google and type in, for example, "coffee," you get 197,000,000 results. When you go to one of the Metasearch engines on the List (Dogpile, mamma, gnosh, PlanetSearch, et al) you still get millions of web Pages, but they are collated from a number of different search engines. GoshMe searches across a variety of specialized search engines and databases, and for the above "coffee" example it returned about 1,200 search engine options - each one of which might have 197,000,000 results! GoshMe results are categorized and have the option to be filtered further.

I've read recently that Google has about 70% of the US search market (followed by Yahoo, then MSN). Where Google doesn't do as well is against regional search engines overseas.

I just downloaded & started using the MyPoints IE add-on search toolbar
works with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP, Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher

among other things, it has a seach feature
also displays your Points balance & has a popup blocker
earned addtional points (25) for downloading it and
earning additional MyPoints each month for using it:

I found a search engine that actually pays you to search from it! You might be able to only make 10 cents, but they'll send it to you! If you really want to make money with it though, you can, but you have to refer alot of ppl and have them join. They pay for refferals 3 levels deep! First I thought I'd add my own refferal link, but then decided - nah. The site is called zotspot.com, you might like it.

For me personally, Google has been just fine. There is nothing else that can out do it. Even I have the toolbar installed and everyday I use for one or the other thing. What ever I don't know, I just google it and believe me, it really has saved my skin always. I think Google has completely revolutionized the way we search. I am a through and through Google man.

Google is amazing but i think ask.com is also kinda cool. It can get a bit confusing though.

The main reason I use Google is that it separates the paid adds from real results. Most of the other engines will put ads higher in result if they pay more. I use the single word Alzheimer as the test search and all of the engines except Google have ads for products mixed with their results (I mean "you can buy Alzheimer at ###.com" - what the heck!?

it took me the LONGEST time to switch over to google. i was a loyal yahoo fan for years and years and refused to jump on the bandwagon.

alas, google eventually became a common verb (just google it) and i couldn't resist any longer! couldn't be happier either. love it.

I think it must have a majority share of world search though?

IT depends what you're looking for, but you usually get better results if you put a site:digg.com or site:del.icio.us before you query term in google. Still using Google, but using it to get better results.
