Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
Nate/Jeffrey:
For the last two days I've experienced the following outage...
When using the last post arrow key (right next to the time stamp) it will pop up and say:
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site
http://www.savingadvice.com/forums/s...d.php?p=123860
Operation aborted."
This is not the only thread that this has been happening on. Some threads it allows me to view and others get this pop-up.
Is this something wrong on my end or are others experiencing this as well?

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
lux, i've been getting this too when i click the 'first new post' button. when i hit my back button it takes me to the intended thread.
it's almost as if clicking the icon is taking me one page past the intended post (which isn't really possible, but it describes the phenomenon).

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
This has been happening to me with several threads as well. I thought it might be a problem with my home computer because I can open them fine at work.

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
I did the going back thing too, but there were some threads where all you could see was the one entry and it wouldn't allow me to go up or down the discussion to read any of the other entries.
Sorry you're still having troubles.

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
Very strange. I have no idea why it would be doing this but i've noticed other strange things as well such as only seeing the first few posts in a thread and the rest simply gone. Really odd stuff, but hope is on the way. We're upgrading to the newest version of the forum software just as soon as I can figure out how to deal with the points system.

i'm so taking a shot in the dark here, nate, so feel free to smite me if necessary
make a backup copy of the csv file with user info (or sql table if you're running on an sql engine). setup the forum software on a test box, and try to replace the new (empty) user csv with the backup copy (or perform a 'recovery' of the sql table using the backup of the existing table). seems to reason that if you completely overwrite the empty dataholder with an up-to-date copy of the existing data holder, you should be alright.

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
Upgrading the forum software itself isn't the issue. There are upgrade scripts that make it fairly easy to do. The problem is the hacks we've added over time. The points system / store is the biggest one. It just so happens that the person who built that hack isn't supporting it anymore, and so it doesn't work for newer versions of our forum software.

I am seeing the same thing at both home and work. Back button is not working (I get same error message).
I get error going to last post or first post on many threads.
If I was filing a problem with my help department I would say "performance is flaky". Because I cannot predict when it will or won't work (I got to this thread without issue).

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
Hi everyone. Please continue reporting problems here, they are very helpful. Include the exact error message, and page URL you tried to access, and if possible the exact time. Does the error occur immediately or does it take many seconds (like the page has timed out)?

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
Do you end up hitting back, and clicking it again or do you just refresh the page and it ends up working? And also, did the error come up right away, or did it take a long time?

It's a crap shoot. going back usually generates same error for me (using IE V6.0) on XP SP 2.
The problems happened at home too, but nearly as frequently as when at work.
If I get error message again, I will snag it and attach.
My images are too large to upload. E-mail me for screen shot before and after.

if i hit the back button, half the time it takes me to the page i should have been at all along: the first unread post of the thread, which is why i described the error as being like i was taken "one page too many forwards". other times, i have to hit the back button more than once to get to the first unread post. maybe 10% of the time nothing works and i have to go back to the root domain to get the page to pull up and start with a new 'new posts' search from the quick links.

Re: Nate/Jeffrey- Problem Viewing Forum Threads
tina, did the error come up right away, or did it take a long time? I'm curious if some of my changes on the server (timeouts and such) may be causing the problem.
