Some how, I got rooked into being the craft leader for a womens group. I have to come up with an idea for EACH month. No biggie right, then I am told it has to be something made of items we would normally throw away. I have ideas for October and December as well as a couple of the summer months, but I need one for February that involves Valentines Day. I will call the group members a couple weeks before the meeting, and tell them what to bring. The idea is that they will not have to buy anything, but to save the items from the trash, and we will make our creation that way. Any ideas??? Our meeting is Feb 8 and I am supposed to call them with their supply list by Jan 24. After I get on track, in Feb I want to give them their list for the March meeting, but I just got this duty Wed.... We will have about 60 minutes or more to devote to our project, as we can work on it during part of our meeting providing its not to complicated, loud, or messy.

Oh I LOVE this idea! I might steal it for our girlscout troop. ANyway, check http://www.familyfun.com for a google of craft ideas. My own?
1. Everyone bring an old picture frame. Plain frames best, wood frames best too. (Photo to fit optional). 2. Everyone bring bits of ribbon, sequins, beads, raid the sewing box. Share the items with others. 3. Hot glue the items artistically on the frame, ie spell words with the items on the frame ie 'family', 'love', 'be mine', 'you stink'. You get the idea... Let me know how this works out. ![]() |

Swedish hearts. They can be made from paper, fabric, metal foil or sheets, or plastic. Here's a link, but there should be many others on the internet. No need to put the handles on them as in my link.
Right now I am using as a coaster under my tea cup an empty plastic-covered foil pouch that a liquid laundry detergent sample came in. If I cut it open, on the inside it has a nice frosted silver finish. It would be a wonderful material to make a Swedish heart with. The inside of a mylar potato chip bag would be similar, but shinier. Look around--there are all kinds of materials one can use for this. http://www.luciamorning.com/heartprint.html |

Start saving everything now, pringles cans, oatmeal boxes, egg cartons, the little plastic things crystal light comes in, and the containers for that stuff as well. Anything colorful will be good to save as well. If you shop somewhere they have pretty bags, save them. Cardboard of all types should be stored away for later crafts. I realize you are having them save the stuff but you need some to make examples and extras. Then there are margarine tubs, and almost any other plactic thing you come across. Milk cartons as well. Are the crafts to be useful or just pretty? Egg shells make nice mosaics if they are dyed and crushed. How about if you all bring in material and make a quilt to donate to a womens shelter?
