But how does the price compare to getting phone service alone? Even if you get a basic package cable for television, it is still a luxury. You are in serious debt. It is not monstrous debt, but you are so on the edge you have not even been able to afford food or shelter; you owe tax (if this is federal tax, there tends to be penalties added); and you have a payday loan which I imagine is no less forgiving. I'll agree that you need a phone while you are looking to get employment and since you have a baby, but cable for TV probably should not be a priority even after you get work. I know it is probably only a little cost, but you have already spent that money.
It's included in the package I mentioned before. It's just basic cable for the news, which I watch on a regular basis. The low income based phone service is about 5 dollars more a month for basic cable, and right now internet is included for 12 months at no extra cost. We are just waiting to have income.

Also, I'm not to the point where I cannot provide food or shelter. Yes we had a rent scare but we wouldn't have ended up on the streets. And I have food taken care of. I would never jeopardize feeding my child.

If you need a phone OP maybe a prepaid cell phone would work. I personally feel better having cell phones when I'm responsible for children. It's portable.

I've had them tell me that before too. It's infuriating.

That's what we have right now but the fees are up the wall. We are hoping to find a basic cell phone service that is a little more forgiving with extra charges. I agree having a cell phone is better with kids.

We recently changed phone service because my husband and I had employee phones through his work, we got prepaid cell phones and they haven't managed to find me yet. But there is some collections agency calling my husband's PARENTS. I don't understand how any of them could have possibly acquired their number. It's becoming really infuriating.
