As a 3D Enthusiast I don't know why I didn't think of posting this earlier, but Daz3D a longtime 3D company which recently acquired Eovia Corp has been offering a free "tellware" program Daz Studio which is comparable to the Poser line of 3D software (and in some ways better). The program was developed ground up in house at Daz and features OpenGL acceleration as well as a 3Delight rendering engine. It's a powerful program that is free. Daz is also offering base geometries for free of some of their popular characters although you will need to purchase morphs, hair, props, clothing, etc from Daz which is thier selling point. Enjoy!
