If you have a hotmail account and use it to start a new XBOX Live gametag on your 360 and then select a silver membership(which is free), they give you a month of free XBL gold. When the month runs out, just make a new hotmail and a new gamertag. Yeah, your gamerscore does not carry over but if you really need to play online and you are tight on money, it works out nice.
