Actually I was thinking a nice bottle of wine for B (if he drinks socially). You guys could share it together, making for a nice romantic evening.
It's a fun gift but not TOO personal OR relationship-y. The kayak bag sounds very nice, but more like a we've been together a year gift, not a new relationship one (to me - of course only you can determine from your perspective how far along you guys are.) I'm sure he'd really like the kayak bag, it isn't that - it's how quickly you are wanting to progress (or have him think you think you're fast paddlling) in a relationship...slow is good.

The wine or liquor could be seen as a not too mushy valentine's gift OR a house-type-gift if he hasn't bought for you. I don't know what other companies do it but on the freebies list yesterday was a Kahlua shaker - while at their website I saw that they would make you free labels to be put on their bottles for gifting purposes...you might want to try something like that but not go too TOO gushy (I'll love you forever)
on the inscription. Maybe something very generic like "Happy Valentine's Day!"
