I think college loans are definitely an individual decision, but they should not be a foregone conclusion like they often are in the high school where I teach. A student has to realize the long term impact of those loans. For example, if a student has $50,000-$100,000 in college loans she might not be able to take her dream job teaching underprivilidged youth in South America (or even the inner-city). If, however, her dream is to climb the corporate ladder and make 6 figures by 25 it might be more reasonable to have the debt.
