i have hardwoods and a few throw rugs, so i keep a 5 gal shop-vac. it works great for me cause i can use it to vacuum rugs, furniture, blinds, etc, but there's no beater bar to fuss with. plus, in the event of an emergency it is also a wet-dry vac.
