Re: How Do You Plan Or Save For Christmas?
We really don't do anything special to save for the holidays - Christmas and Chanukah. The reason is that we don't go crazy with gifts. My wife and I stopped exchanging presents a long time ago. It just didn't make sense when all the money was coming from the same place. If we really need or want something, we generally buy it. We don't feel the need to wait for Chanukah or birthday or anniversary to get it.
Our gift lift is pretty short:
Our daughter (and we do not swamp her with gifts like many parents - perhaps $300 total)
Our moms (about $25 each)
My cousin (about $25)
Our niece (about $25)
My co-workers ($50 each x 4 people)
My wife's co-workers (maybe $25 each x 3 people)
Grand total: $675 give or take a few dollars.
That just isn't that big a bite to our budget and doesn't require any special planning or saving.
