I tried going off of it almost a year ago, because I've been on it since I was 13, and I was curious if my symptoms would be any better now that I'm older... well they weren't, they were horrible! I heard it's possible to get birth control for free, but I don't know where I could get it from. I'm in college, and I don't know if the health center would give them out, because they sell it. Any ideas?
O.k. first of all I have to say this. Have you been fully examined for your cramps and heavy bleeding? I had this same problem (and still do actually) when I started my period. The doctors just kept telling me that some women just bleed more, blah blah blah... I was even told that becase I was such a heavy bleeder it would be unlikely for me to have children. I would miss classes and later work because of cramping. After I had my first child the pain got worse and after 10 months of the doctors saying that it was just my body recovering from having a baby I finally got my insurance to approve a referal to a specialist. Turns out I have endometriosis. Unfortunately, my case is pretty severe, not responding to surgery or lupron injections. My only alternative is removing my female parts at this point. I am not a doctor, and I am not saying that you have this problem too, but it has been my experience as well as many other womens (I have discovered) that this is not being looked at closely enough by their doctors. Please look in to this as a possibility with your doctor.
Also, have you tried going to a local "free" clinic in your area? They often work on a sliding scale and sometimes have samples on hand of birth control. Or, try a planned parenthood office. Birth control is always less expensive there.
