I used to daytrade or swing trade stocks and would look for stocks that did what yours did on a regular basis. K-tel (not sure if it trades anymore) would sit between $2.80 and $3.00 for 2-3 months and then spike to $8 -$12 in minutes and fall back just as fast. No one ever figured out why the big run up, but we did learn as to why it fell so fast. The people would sell into the rally very fast and even short sell knowing full well the stock would plummet fast. I only made money on it 1 time before it never did it again, but did see trader's images posted of their transactions showing multiple huge profits (10's of thousands).
