We do not have a budget for our spending - only for our savings. What is left after savings goes to spending.
We put 17% of my gross every 2 weeks toward savings. We put 78% of my wife's gross twice a month into savings. That money goes to fund our IRAs for $4,000 each, $300/month into taxable mutual fund accounts, $400/month into daughter's 529 plan and the remainder into money market and/or home loan principal payments.
Bills and general spending come out of what is left.
We are debt-free except our home.
