If you use the baking soda first, it scrubs off/loosens up the biggest stains. Then use the vinegar to really clean everything. Finally, go over it all again with dish soap, to get rid of any unpleasant odors. And yes, if you have time to let it heat up between cleanings, it'll be even more effective.
