I was reading in the February 14th issue of Time Magazine that medical debt is now the leading cause of bankruptcies.

There has been a 2,200% increase in bankruptcies caused illness or medical debt from 1981 to 2001.

Approximately 50% of bankruptcies in 2001 we caused by illness and medical debt.
