My dh takes:

Any good leftovers, if none left, then I make sandwich, or 2-3 boiled eggs.
Whenever he takes eggs, I put ranch+bbq souce mix in a baby food jar.
Salad
2 fruits if we have any, if no, then I make sure he gets the big container with salad.
Milk (we have 12 oz glass bottles from Snapple)
Thermos with juice and ice, Or hot tea in the winter time.

Here are some other ideas:

Make a fruit salad
take some cereals and milk with you
yogurt (my dh doesn't like yogurts)
save that pickle jar and you can take soup with you without worrying that it will spill.

And.... don't forget the spoon or fork. Dh keeps some plastic extra in the car in case I forget to put it in his lanch box. He does constraction, so they don't have break rooms there, like I have at my work.

My and Dh's lunches depend on what food we have in the house, same like our at home meals. Right now we have lots of free bread, that needs to be finished before it will get hard, so the next 3 days we will eat sandwiches mostly.
