I am 59 and whenever I look at money I go back to prices when I was first starting out.


1962 2006 Increase
Gasoline 0.35 3.00 757%
A decent 3 bedroom house 12,000 200,000 1567%
An inexpensive bottom line car (VW) 2,000 12,000 500%
Minimum wage was 1.00 5.15 415%
A really good wage was 10,000 100,000 900%
Bread .30 2.15 650%

This type of analysis give a new prespective to inflation.

Housing prices are hugely more compared to a good wage.
Everything is hugely more compared to minimum wage.
