Re: Whats your opinion on a HSA/HDHP health plan?
My experience is mainly on the individual health insurance side. The truth is that it is almost impossible to not come out better with an HSA when you take in to account the tax savings, as long as you have a good plan. There are many HSA plans that have 0 counsurance after the deductible. Unless you are going to the doctor 3-4 times per year per person you will come our ahead with an hsa. Most people do nto realize that their major medical plans may have limitations like max daily benefits for certain diseases that can kick in outside of their standard plans. Great you have a 1k deductible but you can end up apying that and still be stuck with a huge bill if they cap your daily benefit for chemo or if you end up going to the emergency room but don't end up in there for more than 48 hours. Lots of holes in major med policies out there that people are unaware of.
