I think 2 weeks is often a bit long....but letting your kids know that mom and dad do not agree is a problem too.
Generally DH and I talk about something after the fact, and if either feels the punishment is too sever or too long (often the one who gave it) we decide together a proper one, and then tell the kid 'sorry I spoke out of anger, here is a reasonable one'. The goal is eventually to just send them off, then calm down then decide...I actually have done that sometimes. I know time is crucial, but time for me to cool off after DD ruined the library book by coloring in it is pretty important too!
Cell phone pic is a cute idea.
