Funny you should ask. I walk.
In 2004 the townhouse complex where I had lived for a number of years was bought for a condo converstion project. I had to move quickly, and found a place within two miles of the office.
What I considered a misfortune (losing my townhouse and garden) has turned out to be a stroke of luck. I'm within walking distance of the office, a supermarket, branches of the public library and post office, a Dollar Store, and a selection of inexpensive restaurants.
My neighbors find my pedestrian ways a bit eccentric, but my annual car use has dropped by over 10,000 miles, with attendant savings on gas, maintenance and insurance. Plus, I benefit from the regular exercise.
