Hmm, where I am the "dollar movies" are $3. But they also sell pizza and beer and have tables for you to put it on, which is cool.

Matinees aren't that cheap - around $6.50 for a regular theater, compared to $9 for an evening ticket.

In any case I much prefer going to the theater to watching something on video. Half the experience is sharing it with all those other people. But maybe you could start a movie watching club and find a free space to meet and set up a TV.

All that being said, I haven't been to the theater in a couple of months - just trying to save $$. I used to see about 30-50 movies a year, at full price.

BTW sometimes small film festivals are cheaper - e.g. $6 for four or six hours of films. Sometimes they're short films so you really get to see a lot. And sometimes the filmmakers are there, too.
