I save every receipt I get. I have a plastic file crate, and I have files labeled for monthly expenses, and bills etc. At the end of the year I place all of the receipts for a particular category in a labeled envelope and place those envelopes in a big envelope that I label and seal for the year. I started this in 2003, so I have three sealed big envelopes that I keep.

I also record all of my expendituresi n a spreadsheet, different tabs for the year so I have a record electronically as well.

I did have to go back in the year envelope a few days ago, when something appeared on my credit report that should not be there, so I'm glad I kept my receipts, but I keep them very neat and organized so nobody can accuse me of being packratish.
