I have also sat several times for a family that had 17 horses. Someone else came in and fed them twice a day but i was responsible for being there for insurance purposes as 10 of the horses were not theirs. I was free with time from 7 am to 7pm (to go to work basically) but had to be there from 7 pm - 7 am and most of the time on the weekends. For that they paid me $125/day. I wish they would go on vacation again!!

We use a pet sitter when we go out of town. We've used two in two different cities and both charged $12/day for 2 visits with 30 minutes of play time, feeding and watering of 3 pets, litter box, bringing in mail and watering plants. I suppose even at $30-50/day it beats the cost of boarding (we have two large breed dogs and a cat) but yikes I think I'd be searchign a lot harder for a neighborhood kid or family member to help out at that cost.
