From what I understand, any and all media mail is subject to search so I'd never send anything media mail anyway. Not worth saving the extra few cents to inconvenience my buyers.
The general rule is that anything on "media" (ie. discs, dvds, cds or floppies) can go media mail. Anything that is on cartridge (old atari, nintendo etc. games) can not because they are considered hardware.
I shipped 5 cds last week. Each cd sold for between $8.99 & $17.99. All went first class and all cost $1.70 or so. I charged my buyers $1.50. A guy in California told me he got it 2 days later (I'm in northern MA).
I have to ship this weeks batch of stuff tomorrow so I can check on this at the PO and report back if anyone wants.
