I know. When we first did it that way it felt soooo wrong, but it really worked. A friend showed me that way because she had the little snap in inserts for fuzzybuns (or something like that) and that's the way they work.
We rarely had any leaks. At least with DS1. With DS2, the kid only pooped once/week (common with breastfed babies) so when he did poop, it didn't matter what kind of diaper he wore. He was covered from head to toe in poop (literally). If he pooped when we were out, we just went home and into a bath, there was no way to clean him otherwise.
