1) Verbal agreements are not "agreements" in any court of law.

2) Collection agencies cannot force you to do anything.

You're "wondering" ahead of time, and imagining arguements that have yet to happen. Don't worry about it. Get a dated, written confirmation of the cancellation, and you'll be fine.
