Another good thing about prepaid is that the phones are cheaper if yours breaks. I am on verizon, my oldest is on my plan and her phone broke so we spent quality time at the verizon tech place. while waiting to be called up, I looked at the phones. The same phone i bought as a prepaid for my younger son for 19.95 at walmart was ONLY 49.95 WITH 2 yr contract. The plan I have my kids on is 10 mo for unlimited verizon to verizon txt and 250 to everyone else. Plus I am not obligated to stay with it for 2 years. I am seriously considering switching my own phone when my contract ends.

I should also say you can't buy a prepaid phone to replace a contract phone. There is something progammed into it that wont accept it as a contract replacement.
