Most cities have tourism guides which list activities, entertainment and and sites. They usually include an events calendar and can usually be obtained free of charge either from your cities visitor center or local hotels/motels. Many list the price of a particular attraction or event and if not they usually have phone numbers so you can call and check prices before going just to find out it is too expensive.
