Here's more ideas. I cut up old cards, too. I use them for tags, or I glue a pretty one to some plain paper, folded and cut to fit a left-over envelope. Sometimes I cut the message from a different card for the inside, or write it out in my own handwriting. In my family, we exchange cards for special occasions. If it's someone's birthday, all the cards are going to one person, we don't write on the envelope (unless it's being mailed). Then that envelope can be used for a hand made card.
Another thing I do is I glue a nice card front or calendar picture to a present wrapped in plain paper, then this gift can be mailed and there is no bow to get squashed.
