I think I overspend attempting to compensate for other areas of my life that I am not happy about, or not in control of. The immediate gratification from purchases can certainly lift the spirits, and change focus away from something negative. I hate that our society is consumed with keeping up with everyone else...it is such a deadly trap, and I often have a foot caught in it. I try to remind myself of the people that are so amazingly happy with few material things. I feel that too many things just clutter life and cloud the big picture of what's important - I'm trying to get regrounded.
