If this is true it's because we as a society have become more sexist. The media truly is predominantly a reflection of the things our society find acceptable. People always complain about how "sexy" is considered thin and blond and having huge boobs and are so quick to blame that on TV or how TV is more violent these days. Those women are sexy and TV is more violent not always because some big wig exec thinks so, but because a majority of people have that opinion and share it with the media. Think of it like how a hit show never gets canceled ( unless of course they run out of money or something like that) it's a hit because millions of viewers tune in weekly to watch it. Like Desperate housewives, the media didn't tell us the life of a housewife is entertaining, more women these days are becoming housewives and so the media tries to appeal to that population.
