I agree with PricePlus. Stash away money in a separate interest-bearing account. Set up automated direct deposits into that account so you never have to think about it.

Another idea to consider. Early in the year, make a list of what you want to buy for people. Keep your eyes open throughout the year for the best deals on those items. Then just store them in your closet until Christmas comes around.
